Animal and Plant Health Agency Approved
Article 24 (1) (e) of Regulation (EC) No 1069/2009 requires under Section VIII that all Pet Food Plants handling Animal By-Products be approved. This includes the facilities of any business making Dog Treats.
The Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA), formerly the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA), is an executive agency working on behalf of the Department for the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and is responsible for inspecting, and Registering or Approving, premises used for treating Animal By-Products in the UK, except Northern Ireland.
On 20th June our premises were approved as a Pet Food Plant for the handling of Category 3 *Animal By-Products.
A list of Approved and Registered premises can be found on the DEFRA Website. Confirmation of our Approval can be found by viewing the document ‘Approved animal by-product plants in Great Britain’. We can be found under Section VIII – Petfood Plants. This is updated every month and our approval will be shown by July 2022.
Under the terms of approval, and to comply with the requirements of the Animal By-Products Regulations 2011, our products and processes undergo a continuous programme of rigorous testing.
We send our treats to a laboratory every quarter for microbiological testing to ensure that we remain compliant with DEFRA regulations.
*category 3 animal by-products used by Dogs Delight include human grade meats sourced from local butchers only (turkey, chicken, liver and beef) and free range eggs.
