When it comes to what your canine companion eats, the quality, variety and provenance of the ingredients matter to us as much as the way we prepare the food so why mess around with highly processed food with unpronounceable ingredients shipped from who knows where? Superfoods.

Superfoods are just as beneficial for dogs as they are for us and here at Dogs Delight we have our very own Superfood Range of dog food.

 So what do we mean by a superfood? Fruits and vegetables are packed full of essential vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals. As well as their nutritional benefits, these nutrients also act as powerful antioxidants and for this reason certain fruits and vegetables have been termed superfoods.

So what are the benefits of antioxidants for dogs? Well, the benefits are many – they may help to protect against disease, slow down the ageing process, as well as being really beneficial to the immune system. 

As well as our superfoods range, all of our Dogs Delight foods have sweet potato as their source of carbohydrate. This means they too are rich in antioxidants.

Soluble Fibre

All our foods contain sweet potato as their carbohydrate source because sweet potato is not only rich in antioxidants, it is packed full of soluble fibre. Soluble fibre forms a gel in the stomach allowing a slow release of energy after a meal.  This helps the dog to feel fuller for longer so they are less likely to feel hungry between meals. We even have sweet potato in some of our superfood treats too (Cheese & Beetroot Crunch; Salmon & Sweet Potato Crunch and Chicken & Sweet Potato Crunch).

L-carnitine

L-carnitine is added into our Senior Dog food and our Low Fat/Light dog food. L-carnitine is a non-essential amino which helps the body to switch to using fat as source of energy.  We know that as dogs lose weight it is often some muscle that is lost first but it is muscle that burns calories and helps our dogs stay active so L-carnitine is really beneficial as it helps avoid. muscle loss,

It’s also great for older dogs too as it helps to keep hold of that little bit of muscle which may be lost as dogs age helping them stay active and live their best life possible into their senior years.

Prebiotics

All of our foods contain the soluble fibres FOS (fructo-oligosaccharides) and MOS (mannan-oligosaccharides) because they are so good for the gut. Dogs. like us, need good bacteria in their gut and these prebiotics provide nourishment for the bacteria to help them thrive and prevent bad bacteria (pathogens) from surviving. 

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

There are so many benefits of Omega-3’s and so they are in all of our foods.They are anti-inflammatory and so are beneficial for the joints and for digestive health. In addition they are excellent for the skin and coat. They are added to our puppy food because they help with the cognitive development of the growing puppy.

Joint Care Pack

Over time, cartilage can be damaged due to everyday wear on the joints. Our foods have health nutrients added that can help to maintain joint health in dogs throughout life. Glucosamine, which comes from cartilage, can be used by the body to build new cartilage and Chondroitin which also comes from animal or fish cartilage can help to slow the rate of cartilage damage so these two nutraceuticals can be used together either as a preventative measure early in life and also as a treatment once wear and tear has occurred. In addition, Dogs Delight Senior and Light foods also contain MSM for joint care. We call this our joint care pack.
