Liver is one of the most nutrient dense foods we can give our dogs. Here are some of the unique benefits.
Iron
Liver and kidney are the richest sources of heam iron which is the better absorbed form of iron (non-
haem iron is found in plant sources such as legumes and wholegrains). Iron is an essential component of red blood cells and therefore has a major role in the transport of oxygen around the body.
A lack of iron in the diet can lead to anemia, symptoms of which include fatigue and depression because the body is not getting oxygen delivered to where it is needed.
Thankfully anemia in dogs is rare.
B vitamins
Liver is a rich source of B12, Riboflavin and Folate for cellular function.
Protein
Liver is also classed as a high quality protein because it contains all of the essential amino acids needed by dogs.
For these reasons, it is recommended that organ meats such as liver should make up around 10% of
the dogs diet and some dog foods do contain it.
As we all know, liver is messy work with and very smelly to cook or bake so one way to add it into
the diet, if your dogs food does not contain it, is through treats.
Dogs Delight Liver Parcels and Liver Training treats are packed full of liver and so not only are they
super nutritious, they smell absolutely amazing to dogs. So much so that they make a fantastic
training treat which dogs will do anything for!
